A group of students from Sharnbrook Upper School who are passionate about business are thrilled to have been offered the opportunity of competing in the prestigious Young Enterprise Competition.
Young Enterprise's mission statement is "to inspire and equip young people to learn and succeed through enterprise.'' Young Enterprise
The eleven sixth form students have formed the 'The Original Idea Company' which will compete against businesses set up in schools across the Country. Sales Director, Amy Castiglione tells us that, "The team worked too slowly at the beginning and it took us nearly two weeks to come up with a name, and a further two weeks to develop our Company concept. We're starting to find our feet in the New Year, having adopted a different approach, with new management, a new dedicated Company Secretary and a skilful I.T. Director."
The students are convinced that their company is truly original and different from any that have entered the competition previously, because of their distinctive range of product. Managing Director, Barney Coles, comments, "We've a unique concept which involves sourcing original, quality products and displaying them on one easy-to-browse website. We also have some fantastic products that we've designed and developed ourselves, such as our Fabric Notice Boards wooden tiki's, and rare Garlic Oil Bowls.' He invites anyone who feels that they have products that may fit into their portfolio to contact the company.
Thanks to The Original Idea Company's latest recruit, Hayden Byrne, a website www.theoriginalideacompany.co.uk is up and running, displaying a number of innovative and competitively priced products for everyday life. The Original Idea Company would like to encourage you to visit their website, view their products and place an order if you see something you would like, they would also be very interested in any feedback you have regarding the user-friendliness of the website. The company also have a Blog, a page on Facebook and a Twitter account which can be accessed via the website, again they would welcome your feedback on how they could be improved. Marketing Director, Hannah Freed, says, "We're attempting to make our Company as visible as possible using social networking as well as traditional promotional strategies. With only a few months before our presentation to the judges we're really putting our heads down and working hard."
The students will be exhibiting at trade fairs such as Milton Keynes which is to be held in Middleton hall by John Lewis' on February 19, and hope to negotiate a stand at the Cambridge trade fair on February 11, located in The Grafton Centre.
